When You're Scheduled to Work the Holidays
You’re writing down your schedule for the week. Even after checking it twice, there it still sits. You’re working over the Christmas holiday. Before the tears start falling from thinking about all the memories you’ll miss out on with loved ones, turn your frown around. Working the holidays doesn’t have to put a damper on your enjoyment of the season.
Make the Most of Your Holiday
Who says you have to celebrate a holiday on the actual day? Do you have the day before or after off? Celebrate at that time, instead! It doesn’t matter when you celebrate. All that matters is that you’re able to spend some quality time with loved ones, making memories.
Chances are, you’re not the only nurse working over the holidays. And since coworkers are often like family, have your own holiday celebration at work. Everyone can bring in a side dish for a potluck holiday meal, and you can even do a gift exchange. Celebrating with your “second family” can be a fun experience.
Remember, while you might be stuck at work over the holidays, your patients are stuck at home sick. This is the season of giving, so instead of sulking over the fact you have to work, remember that their holiday isn’t as bright as they would have hoped, either. Give back to them by working to make their holiday as special as possible! You can even bring some of your own traditions to them, like reading “The Night Before Christmas” or watching “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
You don’t have to experience the blues when working a holiday, especially when working for Health Care Staffing of Tennessee! Join in on the fun in 2017 by applying for a position with our company today.
