Do you feel as though you’ve lost your connection with friends and family who don’t live in your area or even loved ones who do? Take time during your commute to touch base with friends and loved ones who you haven’t spoken with in a while. Do you miss being able to sit down with a good book? Purchase or rent an audiobook that you can listen to going to work in the morning and coming home from work at night.
Also, use your lunch break! Instead of continuing to check work emails and thinking and talking only about work, utilize this time to pay bills, research a project you may be working on for school, catch up some reading, make those calls that have been on your “to-do” list for a week, and so on. If you want to one day have lunch with co-workers, no problem! Just arrive early that day to complete those items that you need to beforehand.
Don’t forget to plan time for yourself. You make appointments in your calendar for everyone else. Therefore, you should be able to have a meeting with yourself at least once or twice a week. Use this time to exercise, meditate, take a bath, go for a walk, have coffee, etc. No matter what you choose to do with that time, never break a date with yourself! You don’t cancel important meetings at work. So don’t cancel this vital meeting with yourself.
