Take the Chaos Out of Your Week
Life can get pretty crazy really quickly, especially if you are the one in charge of not only putting food on the table, but also running children back and forth to school and after-school activities. While there may not be a way to release all the stress a week can bring, there are things you can do to help plan ahead so that your week holds more calm hours in each day than chaotic.
Prepare This Week for Next
Sunday seems to be the perfect day for most to be able to take a moment to sit down and think about everything that needs to get done for the week. Start by making yourself a cup of coffee, grabbing a pen and a piece of paper, and writing down your weekly to-do list. While you are at it, write down not only tasks (i.e., kids after-school activities, meetings, etc.), but also consider meal planning, as well. In addition, do not forget to add some time for yourself, whether that is going for a run in the morning or grabbing a coffee with a friend one day during the week.
Then, place all the information for the week on a calendar and post it in a place (perhaps on the refrigerator) where everyone in the family can look at it daily in order to know what is expected for that day and what will be for dinner. You may also want to put post-its or the to-do lists in your own personal calendar (or phone) so that it is near you in case you need to make arrangements for someone to pick up the kids or as helpful reminders for what is due and when.
Try at the end of each day to make time for family also, whether it is eating dinner together (electronics free!) or having a family game night once a week. It is important to connect as a family so that you all can see your support for one another no matter how crazy the week may become.
