Nursing Resolutions 101
Another Christmas is about to come and go. (sniff, sniff) And while it is always sad to say goodbye, look at the positive: a brand new year is just around the corner! What does that mean? A chance at a brand new start! So while you are thinking of some personal resolutions for 2016, there are resolutions you can make professionally, as well.
What Will Your Resolutions Be?
When a new year starts, it is important to set both personal and professional goals. This is especially true if you are a nurse, since most nurses worry so much about others and caring for them that they let their own health fall to the wayside.
Here are some resolutions to make for next year that will benefit both yourself and your patients.
First, make it a point to address any situation you feel needs to be corrected. Do you feel overworked? Under-appreciated? Make it known. While your colleagues may know what is going on and understand, sometimes supervisors do not realize the situation. Speak up. You never know—it just might result in the change everyone has been needing to make the work environment an easier and less stressful place.
Also, make a resolution for YOUR health. You will be no help to your patients if you do not take care of yourself. You need your strength to make it through the long days and nights. Stress is not a friend to the metabolism, unfortunately. And while you may be on your feet all day, it is still important to incorporate a healthy diet into your day. Bring healthy snacks and lunches to work. Also, try different routines for exercise. Since you are on your feet all day, why not try yoga or Pilates?
